Chinese state media said on Monday that the Red Cross Society of China will donate $200,000 to the Moroccan Red Crescent for immediate humanitarian aid in the wake of a terrible earthquake that struck the country of North Africa late on Friday.
According to the reports, the Chinese Red Cross stated that the money will be utilised to assist Morocco with rescue and disaster relief efforts.
State media stated that Chinese President Xi Jinping sent his condolences to Moroccan King Mohammed VI and expressed his amazement at learning of the powerful earthquake that had caused significant property losses and casualties.
Chinese medical personnel have been actively assisting casualties in Morocco, even during the aftershocks.
The village of Ben Guerir in central Morocco is the closest to the earthquake’s core that a Chinese medical team can travel.
A pediatrician was seen in a video in Chinese official media holding a newborn who had just been delivered after the province was struck by a 6.8 earthquake that killed more than 2,100 people.
Meanwhile, King Mohammed VI of Morocco praised Spain, Qatar, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates for delivering relief in the wake of the deadly earthquake that struck the kingdom on Friday.
Before accepting assistance from the four nations, Morocco evaluated its humanitarian needs and the value of coordinating relief efforts, it stated in the statement late on Sunday.
