According to a statement released by the Customs Tariff Commission of State Council, China will grant zero-tariff treatment to 98 percent of taxable items originating in Ethiopia, Burundi, and Niger beginning March 1, 2023.
According to the commission, the new step is conducive to materialising the spirit of China-Africa friendship and cooperation, assisting the least developed countries in accelerating their development, and building an open global economy.
At the eighth ministerial conference of the Forum on China Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) last year in Senegal, the Chinese government pledged to provide tariff preferences for LDCs.
They will go even further to gradually extend such treatment to all least developed countries with diplomatic ties, it added.
