According to the Center for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI), an independent investigation has revealed that the Chinese national Lu Ke, who abused Malawian children in Njewa, Lilongwe, has fled the country.

CDEDI’s Executive Director, Sylvester Namiwa, also noted that the response from police authorities on the issue was ‘lukewarm’.

He adds that they have asked the Chinese Embassy in Malawi to return Lu Ke to face the law. The local governance institution also demands that authorities act within seven days.

Addressing journalists in Lilongwe, Namiwa threatened to stage indefinite protests if authorities do not act on their demands of removing all illegal Chinese nationals from the country within 48 hours and apologising to the Chinese Ambassador within the same time frame.

Namiwa stated that the government should deport Chinese nationals who are illegally in the country within 48 hours.

“The 48 hours is inline with the Malawi investments forum where they should check who is do what in this country especially the Chinese,” said Namiwa.

He also demanded that the Chinese embassy publicly apologise to the country and return the Chinese national in question.

CDEDI also questions the effectiveness of Malawi’s National Intelligence Service, claiming that “the country cannot wait for newsmen to expose the dirt the Chinese nationals are doing in the country.”

However, National Police Deputy Spokesperson Harry Namwaza previously stated that investigations into the matter had begun.
