Chin’s Way: Rising Nigerian Filmmaker Chinweizu Breaks New Ground

Chinweizu Oham, a young Nigerian filmmaker, is rapidly gaining recognition for her creative talents and innovative approach in the entertainment industry. Her journey began at the age of 12 when she moved to the United States for boarding school.

It was there that she nurtured her passion for acting and filmmaking, participating in theatre productions and joining the film club, which ignited her creative pursuits.
Determined to follow her passion, Chinweizu enrolled at the New York Film Academy in January 2021, where she pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Acting for Film. During her time at the academy, she honed her skills in various acting techniques, including Meisner and Chekhov, and gained expertise in screenplay writing, improvisation, voice-over, and content creation. She also starred in several student films, showcasing her versatility in both dramatic and comedic roles.

After graduating summa cum laude in August 2023, Chinweizu wasted no time in diving into the professional world. She was invited to join the cast of a film directed by a screenwriter and instructor from the academy, marking her first experience on a professional set. Since then, she has been actively submitting herself for roles, determined to keep her momentum going.

Chinweizu’s latest venture is her show titled “Chin’s Way,” a semi-scripted talk show that she describes as “for Gen Z by Gen Z.” The show features Chin playing a heightened version of herself as she discusses lighthearted topics with friends who hold opposing views. The format combines interviews, comedic conflict, and playful game segments, offering a fresh take on traditional talk shows.

The show is set to be released on YouTube and TikTok, with clips available on Instagram, aiming to captivate a younger audience with its unique approach.
Her story is one of perseverance and self-discovery. She encourages young people to give themselves time, embrace their journey, and rely on a strong support system.

Despite the challenges and uncertainties of pursuing an entertainment career, Chinweizu’s faith, family, and community have been instrumental in her growth and success. Now, with her own show and an internship at a talent agency in New York City, the young talent is poised to make a significant impact in the filmmaking industry.
She played a supporting role in ‘Neon Kisses’, and was a lead actress in ‘Our Lady of 121st Street’, ‘Glue’, ‘Atomic Wings’ among others.

Looking to the future, Chinweizu believes that content creation in Nigeria will continue to thrive.

With Nigeria’s rich culture and creative talent, she sees a growing market for diverse content on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, where more and more Nigerian creators are showcasing their unique perspectives to the world.
