Cholera Cases Detected in South Africa Linked to Zimbabwe Outbreak

South Africa has reported two cholera cases in the northern Limpopo province, urging residents to stay vigilant. The patients, both Zimbabwean nationals who recently crossed the border into South Africa, are currently isolated in hospital. Aged 43 and 27, they are receiving medical attention.

The province’s health department has called on the public to remain calm but vigilant, advising prompt medical attention for those experiencing symptoms consistent with cholera.

Zimbabwe is currently grappling with a cholera outbreak, claiming over 200 lives, while Zambia has reported approximately 300 cholera-related deaths since October.

Cholera, a bacterial disease spread through contaminated water or food, leads to severe dehydration and can be fatal within hours if untreated.
