Cholera: No Confirmed Cases in Yobe

Cholera: Ondo Intensifies Surveillance After Two Confirmed Cases

The Yobe Primary Healthcare Board’s executive secretary, Kundi Machina, stated that there are no confirmed cases of cholera in the state. Mr. Machina, speaking through state health promotion officer Mohammed Kado, conveyed this information during an interview with journalists in Damaturu, the state capital, on Sunday.

The government, in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), has initiated a public awareness campaign on personal hygiene and environmental sanitation in all of the state’s 17 local government areas.
This campaign is primarily focused on high-risk LGAs like Gujba, Gulani, Damaturu, Fika, and Geidam, with the goal of preventing cholera and other waterborne diseases.

Mr. Machina noted that while cases of diarrhoea and related illnesses tend to increase during the rainy season, there is currently no evidence of a cholera outbreak in Yobe.
He urged residents to uphold good personal hygiene and environmental sanitation practices to curb the spread of diseases.
This reassurance has eased the concerns of the state’s residents, who had been on high alert following reports of cholera outbreaks in neighbouring states.
