On Friday, the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI) announced that cholera vaccines will soon arrive in Nigeria.
GAVI’s CEO, Sania Nishtar, confirmed the news in a statement on the company’s official website.
Nishtar stated that GAVI is ready to collaborate with UNICEF and WHO to mitigate the outbreak.
“We stand ready to work with our partners, UNICEF and WHO, to support Minister Muhammad Pate, Nigeria’s federal ministry of health, and the NCDC’s timely efforts to contain this outbreak and protect those at highest risk.
“Despite the large number of cholera outbreaks this year, our stockpile is now fully replenished, and production continues at maximum capacity,” he said.
In Nigeria, 3,623 suspected cases of cholera and 103 deaths have been recorded in 34 states.
