Oscar-winning filmmaker Christopher Nolan‘s most recent movie will transport viewers to mythological Greece.
This week, Universal Pictures said that Nolan will be helming the film adaptation of “The Odyssey,” an old epic thought to have been composed by Homer between 750 and 650 BCE that revolves around the character Odysseus’ ten-year journey home following the Trojan War.
The studio announced Nolan’s next adaptation on their X page Monday, calling it “a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology.”
According to reports, Oscar winners Matt Damon, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Zendaya, Tom Holland, and Robert Pattinson will all appear in the movie.
Speaking about joining the project, Holland stated last week on the “The Dish” podcast that filming has not yet begun. He also mentioned that he was still unaware of all the specifics and that Nolan had only “loosely pitched” it to him at their meeting to talk about the project.
The actor from “Spider-Man” also talked about working with his girlfriend Zendaya, making a joke about how “studios love it” when they work on the same production because they only have to pay for “one hotel room.”
Previous appearances by Pattinson, Damon, and Hathaway in Nolan’s films include “Oppenheimer,” “Interstellar,” and “Tenet.”
In addition, Nolan is the director of epic films like “Inception,” “The Dark Knight,” “Dunkirk,” and his most recent work, “Oppenheimer,” which won the Best Picture prize at the previous year’s Oscars.
Along with winning the Academy Prize for Best Director, Nolan also won the prize as a producer.
“The Odyssey” will introduce Homer’s “foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time,” Universal announced on social media this week. It is scheduled to debut in theatres on July 17, 2026.
