Cocaine Use Increases in Africa As New Centres Emerge – United Nations

The worldwide production of cocaine has increased to record levels, according to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in the last two years.

According to a recent study by the UNODC, cocaine use is rising not only in traditional markets like Europe and the Americas but also in Africa and Asia.

It claims that between 2021 and 2022, coca production increased by 35% in South America.

It continued by saying that over the previous ten years, new cocaine trade hotspots had appeared in West and Central Africa.

The potential for the market to grow in Africa and Asia is a dangerous fact, according to UNODC chief Ghada Waly.
