In a statement he sent to Kano newsmen, the service’s public relations officer, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, verified the occurrence.

According to him, the Toyota Hiace bus with the license plate XE 222 TRN, a commercial vehicle, caught fire near the Government Technical College in the state’s Nassarawa Local Government District.

He claimed that the incident happened as the bus travelling from Ajingi LGA to Kofar Wambai caught fire.

Firefighters and officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps were able to extinguish the fire and save the majority of the victims.

Surayya Umar and Zeenai Babaji were two of the names given by Abdullahi, who said that three of the ladies in the bus had been burned beyond recognition.

Abdullahi said that the remaining 13 people, who were hurt in different ways, were taken to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano to get care.

He claimed that the bus conductor, Hassan Danladi, 30, and the driver, Muhammad Gali, 35, were also free from harm and given to the police.

The fire service representative urged drivers to exercise caution, blaming the crash on exceeding the speed limit and a ruptured rear tyre.
