A commercial motorist on Tuesday set himself ablaze in Ajao Estate area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria to protest the alleged seizure of his bus by officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA.
According to eyewitnesses, the commercial driver, whose name could not be confirmed right away, was apprehended for a traffic violation.
Two LASTMA officials are claimed to have hauled him out of the vehicle and turned on the ignition in preparation for their journey to Oshodi.
According to eyewitnesses, the commercial driver poured gasoline over his body and struck a matchstick as they were about to move.
The situation was brought under control by the intervention of police officers from the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, who were dispatched by their Commander, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi.
Two RRS patrol vehicles were there, and another vehicle from the Ajao Estate division was seen monitoring the area.
