Commuters Stuck on Lagos-Ibadan Railway, Due to Vandalism

Train movement on the Lagos-Ibadan Railway section to temporarily halted on Saturday, due to wanton destruction of components of the railway tracks.

Commuters aboard the train which departed the Obafemi Awolowo Train Station in Ibadan at 8:30 am on Saturday, stopped somewhere before Funmilayo Ransom Kuti, at the Papalanto axis, due to the alleged removal of railway tracks by some vandals.

A passenger confirmed that no sooner had they left Abeokuta did an official of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) made an announcement that their technicians were fixing a fault on the track, and that it would not take long.

The technicians were said to have fixed the missing components within 30 minutes.

A deaf woman crushed to death around itoki

It was gathered that a similar incident happened twice in January: the trains were forced to stop for about 35 minutes, before they continued with the journey.

In an unrelated incident which happened on Wednesday February 9, 2022, a deaf woman begging for alms around Itoki area in Ogun State was crushed to death by an oncoming Lagos-Ibadan standard train.

She had a pamphlet beside her which indicated that she was deaf and needed financial assistance to feed her child.
