The Democratic Republic of Congo’s Prime Minister, Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde has announced a new cabinet in a move that consolidates President Felix Tshisekedi control in government.
The new government named “Sacred Union coalition” counts 57 members including 14 women as more women join the cabinet.
Lukonde remarked that the priorities of the Sacred Union Coalition are security, health, education, justice, agriculture, economy, electoral process, infrastructure, digital projects, fisheries and livestock.
The appointment of the new government comes four months after Tshisekedi moved to end a coalition formed with former President Joseph Kabila that had for long constrained his authority since he took office in January 2019.
