At a court session held on Tuesday in Jimeta, Yola, Adamawa State, Nuhu Isah was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, with the alternative of paying a fine of N20,000. The sentence was handed down for his actions in intimidating officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and inciting passengers against them.
The Corps Public Relations Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, revealed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.
The court, presided over by His Worship Mohammed Njidda, delivered the verdict following an incident on Sunday in which Nuhu Isah recorded an FRSC patrol team while they were performing their official duties. During the recording, he was said to have intimidated the officers and incited a mob against them, which led to his arrest and subsequent prosecution.
“A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Jimeta, Yola, Adamawa State, presided over by His Worship Mohammed Njidda on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, convicted and sentenced one Mr Nuhu Isah to six months’ imprisonment with an option of a N20,000 fine for criminally intimidating an FRSC patrol team,” the statement read in part.
The Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, reaffirmed the agency’s dedication to ensuring safety on Nigeria’s roads.
Mohammed urged the public to support road safety initiatives and condemned actions that endanger both road users and FRSC officers. He emphasised the FRSC’s resolve to enforce road safety regulations despite such challenges.
“The Corps Marshal calls on all road users to contribute their part towards enhancing safety on the highways rather than engaging in acts detrimental to safer road use.
“He reiterated the FRSC’s unwavering commitment to ensuring safety on all Nigerian roads and stressed that threats from miscreants will not deter FRSC personnel,” the statement added.
