Zimbabwean Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Members of Parliament (MPs), Job Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole have been denied bail by a Harare deputy chief magistrate Gibson Mandaza.
Mandaza remanded the duo in custody to July 6, 2022. Their lawyers will launch an urgent appeal at the High Court tomorrow.
CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere says the denial of bail to Zengeza West MP Job Sikhala and Chitungwiza North counterpart Godfrey Sithole “offends the constitution”
Magistrate Mandaza said Sikhala and Sithole are a threat to public security and likely to provoke chaos if released on bail.
The opposition MPs were arrested last week on allegations of inciting public violence. This was after the eruption of violence during the funeral wake of slain CCC activist, Moreblessing Ali, which involved CCC and ZANU PF supporters.
