Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected the plea from Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Biafra nation agitators, to reinstate his revoked bail and transfer him from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) to either house arrest or prison custody.

The judge explained that Kanu had previously brought the same request before her, which she dismissed due to its lack of merit. In her ruling on Kanu‘s recent request, Justice Nyako affirmed that Kanu had indeed violated the terms of his earlier granted bail by absconding and fleeing the country.

Furthermore, she noted that the sureties who had stood for him during the earlier bail proceedings had sought to be relieved of their responsibilities, as they were unable to locate Kanu or ascertain his whereabouts.

Justice Nyako emphasised that Kanu’s only recourse now is to appeal to the Court of Appeal and pursue his right to appeal.

Disagreeing with Kanu’s lead counsel’s assertion regarding the Supreme Court’s stance on the revocation of his earlier bail, the judge stated that she had thoroughly examined the Supreme Court’s judgment and found no support for the lawyer’s claim.

Kanu also berated, insisting not to stand trial before any court in Nigeria. He claimed that any attempt to put him on trial would amount to a breach of Nigeria’s Constitution and international laws.
