COVID-19 Accelerated Digital Media Evolution – Pamilerin

According to digital consultant Pamilerin Adegoke, the COVID-19 pandemic acted as a catalyst for unprecedented growth in digital media consumption and production.

Speaking on Newscentral’s breakfast show, Jasiri, Adegoke said that individuals turned to digital platforms for entertainment, information, and connection as everyone was stuck at home and immobile.

This surge in demand accelerated the development and adoption of various digital media technologies, with streaming services witnessing exponential growth as people sought alternatives to traditional television.

Social media platforms also became indispensable for staying connected, sharing news, and engaging with communities. Additionally, remote work and online education necessitated the rapid development of video conferencing and learning management systems.

Furthermore, Adeogke highlighted how the pandemic accelerated digital literacy and infrastructure as the digital divide became increasingly apparent. This spurred efforts to bridge the gap and ensure equitable access to digital resources.

He noted, however, that while some brands are conservative, there is no harm in trying out new things.

“Some people are rigid, but most brands that have blown have gone with the flow and jumped on trends.” He said.
