Libyan Mayor Dies from Coronavirus Infection

A Libyan Mayor, Mustafa Karwad has reportedly died from the coronavirus infection.

Prior to his death, Karwad, was the mayor of Libya’s Misrata, one of the largest cities in the country.

The city, in a statement on Monday, said Karwad died in an isolation unit after suffering from the disease for two weeks.

It declared three days of mourning.

As of now, the country’s National Center for Disease Control has registered 13,966 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, with 1,459 recoveries and 237 fatalities.

Meanwhile, The World Health Organisation (WHO) said the pandemic has caused disruption to health services in nine out of 10 countries.

Tedros Ghebreyesus, the WHO Director-General, in a statement on Monday, said low and middle-income countries have faced the greatest difficulty. .

The findings were taken from a fresh survey conducted by the global health body.

In total, 105 countries filed reports as part of an investigation into the impact of the COVID-19 on 25 core health services.

“Data collected from five regions over the period from March to June 2020 illustrate that almost every country (90%) experienced disruption to its health services, with low- and middle-income countries reporting the greatest difficulties,” the WHO said.
