COVID-19: Nigeria Records 4 More Deaths, 999 New Cases

Nigeria’s health agency has announced 999 new cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) disease, bringing total confirmed cases in the country to 79,789.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) also announced four more deaths from complications related to the disease.

The NCDC, in a statement on its website late Tuesday night, said it had so far tested more than 903,800 samples since the first case was recorded in Nigeria in February.

It stated that with 27,091 infections, Lagos remained Nigeria’s epicentre, followed by Federal Capital Territory with 10,122 cases, and Kaduna with 4,628 cases, accounting for 70 per cent of the country’s infections.

The country sadly recorded four additional deaths in the last 24 hours, 396 patients were discharged from isolation centres in the country, after recovering from the Coronavirus, NCDC said.

The NCDC said that the new infections were reported from 17 states and the Federal Capital Territory, in the last 24 hours, with the breaking showing that the FCT lead with 416, followed by Lagos 324, Kaduna 68, and Plateau42.

Other states include, Kwara (32), Kano (24), Gombe (14), Sokoto (12), Yobe (12), Akwa Ibom (11), Bayelsa (10), Rivers (7), Bauchi (7), Ogun (6), Oyo (5), Edo (4), Taraba (4) and Jigawa (1)

NCDC noted that till date, 79,789 cases had been confirmed, 68,879 cases had been discharged and 1,231 deaths recorded across the country.

The agency said that the multi-sectoral national Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), activated at Level 3, continued to coordinate the national response activities.

NCDC advise Nigerians to adhere to all COVID-19 preventive measures as they celebrate Christmas and New Year.
