Mauritius closed its international airport on Wednesday after authorities issued a Class 3 cyclone alert due to the approaching Cyclone Garance.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, Air Mauritius confirmed that all flights at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport had been suspended until further notice.
The Mauritius Meteorological Service issued the warning as Cyclone Garance was located 390 kilometres (240 miles) from the Indian Ocean island as of 1500 GMT.

The storm was moving eastward but could shift course, potentially passing over Mauritius and the French island of La Réunion, according to forecasters.
“Due to its expected trajectory, the risk of intensification, and its proximity to Mauritius, a class 3 warning has been issued,” the meteorological service said.
The situation remains under close monitoring as residents brace for possible severe weather conditions.
