The United Nations Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) has opined that the future of D.R. Congo depends on that of Africa.
MONUSCO Chief, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in DRC, Leila Zerrougui, in a news conference held to mark the end of her mandate, said the “DRC can be a factor which can draw the continent to the top.”
She called on all Congolese to take a step back and look forward to the long-term to get out of underdevelopment and continue working for peace and stability in DR Congo.
The chief of the UN Mission also called on Congolese to continue working for the eradication of organised crimes.
“Within this framework, you must work with justice, which made significant progress to avoid giving premiums to criminals, the former members of armed groups after their community reintegration.
“Those criminals still think of amnesty and integration into the army with grades, which will be a gift to impunity,” she said.
According to the MONUSCO chief, she will plead for DR Congo everywhere on the issue of peacekeeping operations.
“In DRC, I established strong relations and I don’t know another country that I can talk about like DR Congo. MONUSCO is continuing working on DR Congo’s stability and stabilization, and it’s not easy to obtain results immediately. We must be patient,” Zerrougui said.
