Dangote Proposes Sale of Refinery to NNPCL

Aliko Dangote

Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has offered to sell Dangote Refinery valued at $20 billion to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

He disclosed this in an interview with Premium Times on Sunday, July 21, 2024. The billionaire business mogul said it is inequitable to brand him as a monopolist considering the efforts in tackling Nigeria’s fuel importation issues.

“This refinery can help resolve the problem but it does appear some people are uncomfortable that I am in the picture.

“So I am ready to let go, let the NNPC buy me out, and run the refinery. At least the country will have high-quality products and create jobs,” he added.

Dangote’s statement comes after Engr. Farouk Ahmed, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority’s CEO, announced that the Dangote refinery products were of inferior quality.

Ahmed expressed concerns about the potential risks of allowing the Refinery to become a monopoly, particularly for Automotive Gas Oil and Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK).

Addressing Ahmed’s claims about the refinery producing substandard products, Dangote requested an independent test.
