The Dangote Petroleum Refinery is poised to supply fuel to approximately 150,000 retail outlets affiliated with the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN).
This collaboration follows a productive meeting between the refinery’s management and IPMAN executives. Last week, IPMAN had scheduled discussions with Dangote refinery officials concerning product supply to independent marketers.
President of IPMAN, Abubakar Maigandi, confirmed that the association has successfully engaged with the refinery’s management, securing an agreement to supply products to over 30,000 IPMAN members.
Expressing optimism about the outcome, Maigandi stated, “The meeting went well, so right now we are just expecting their reply in terms of products that they are going to give us. They have agreed to dispense products to IPMAN members.”
Highlighting the scale of the collaboration, Maigandi added, “We have 30,000 members as of our last census, which was done two years ago. And they agreed to supply products to us. Also, our retail outlets are 150,000 stations across the country.”
Dangote’s refinery, one of substantial size, is set to play a crucial role in meeting Nigeria’s fuel demands. The president emphasised that the refinery’s capacity extends beyond domestic consumption, allowing for potential exports.
Regulatory scrutiny is currently underway, with the downstream oil sector regulator evaluating the quality of refined products before granting approval for market distribution.
Furthermore, seven major oil marketers, united under the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN), have registered with Dangote refinery for the lifting and distribution of refined petroleum products. These marketers include 11 Plc, Conoil Plc, Ardova Plc, MRS Oil Nigeria Plc, OVH Energy Marketing Limited, Total Nigeria Plc, and NNPC Retail.
In a parallel initiative, the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) is actively engaging with the refinery’s management for a potential supply arrangement.
Notably, on January 12, 2024, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery initiated the production of Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) and JetA1 (aviation fuel), marking a significant milestone in its operational timeline.
