Tanzania’s commercial capital Dar es Salaam is faced with water shortages forcing most residents to minimise water usage, to cope with severe shortage after Dar es Salaam Water and Sewerage Authority(Dawasa) began rationing in most parts of the city.
Dawasa recently announced that due to decrease in water levels caused by drought, there will be a shortage for customers served by the Upper Ruvu and Wami River.
A resident of Ubungo Kibangu said they have witnessed an acute shortage of water with some days passing by without running water in the last three weeks.
In order to cope with the rationing, most have been forced to utilise whatever little water is available.
A respondent said: “This is the first time that we are experiencing this kind of shortage since Dawasa connected us. We now receive water once a week”.
