Vandals have once again wrecked the 330-kilovolt Shiroro-Katampe Transmission Line, leaving areas of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, in complete darkness.
Ndidi Mbah, the spokesperson for the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, said in a statement Thursday evening that the 330 kV Shiroro-Katampe circuit lost grid power at around 11:43 PM.
“We regret to inform you that on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) experienced vandalism on its 330 kV Shiroro-Kaampe transmission line.
“Around 11:43 p.m., the grid’s 330 kV Shiroro-Katampe circuit lost power. The queue instantly tripped again after an attempt at trial reclosure.
“A TCN lines patrol team was sent out from the TCN Abuja Regional office to look into what caused the breakdown. The team found that a portion of the conductor between towers T216 and T218 had been stolen by vandals,” she stated.
According to Mbah, the TCN lines repair team has since arrived on the scene and is diligently replacing the damaged 330kV electrical conductor.
“The bulk power supply through the affected line is expected to be restored shortly,” she stated, urging the public to help spot and report any suspicious activity around power transmission equipment.
