Davido Loses All Three Nominations at the Grammys

Afrobeats star Davido lost all three nominations at the 66th Grammy Awards ceremony on Sunday night. The singer’s name was unavailable in all the three categories he was nominated for.

The “Unavailable” crooner lost a chance at what would have been the first Grammy award of his career.

David Adeleke “Davido” earned his first Grammy nominations under three categories: Best Global Music Performance with the song “Feel”, Best Global Music Album with the album “Timeless”, and Best African Music Performance with the song “Unavailable”. However, the singer failed to secure any of the three awards.

Shockingly, other nominated Nigerian artists were equally left empty-handed, including Burna Boy, Asake, Olamide, and Ayra Starr.

News Central reports that South African singer Tyla took home her first Grammy Award for Best Global Music Performance with her chart-shattering song “Water”.

Earlier before the event commenced, the excited DMW boss expressed optimism about his Grammy victory. He also commended the new award category added by the Recording Academy, saying it was long overdue.

“I feel good being a nominee for the first time and getting three nominations. But the Best African Music Performance category feels long overdue for African music to be celebrated.

“I’m talking about generations way before mine, Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade… Sunny Ade has been nominated, I believe, but now there is an African category,” Davido said.
