A bus veered off the road and plunged into a river in southern Ethiopia on Wednesday resulting in the deaths of at least 28 people and causing serious injuries to 19 others, according to local authorities.
The tragic incident occurred in Wolaita, located approximately 400 kilometres south of the capital Addis Ababa.
Local authorities announced on Facebook that 28 individuals had lost their lives in the accident, with 19 others sustaining serious injuries.
Details such as the total number of passengers aboard the bus were not immediately available, but authorities confirmed that search operations were ongoing.
Online images depicted the severely deformed bus roof, which had been completely torn off due to the impact.
