Fighting has continued near an army base in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum amidst the conflict between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF).

The army gave the disclosure in a statement via its Facebook page on Tuesday night after it repelled another attack by the paramilitary RSF fighters amidst the worsening Sudan conflict.

It said heavy losses were inflicted on the group when it tried to attack the Armoured Corps military base in the Al-Shajara area of Khartoum.

The RSF reported via its Twitter page that it had taken over some parts of the army base and seized a substantial quantity of weaponry.

A senior envoy to the Rapid Support Forces, Youssef Ezzat, had last month stated the need for peace between both parties to prevent Sudan’s Darfur from sliding into war.

He affirmed his side’s willingness to engage in any peace-focused meetings and initiatives to halt the Sudan conflict affecting Darfur and other areas.

The leader of SAF, General Abdel Fattah al Burhan, earlier this month accused his rival and RSF-leader, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, of perpetrating War crimes while falsely pledging to reinstate democracy.

“How can one bring about democracy by engaging in war crimes? Such crimes have occurred in Khartoum, El Geneina, Kutum, Tawila, Sirba, Slileira, Munawashi, Kèss, and every inch traversed by the rebels since their ill-fated mutiny,” he articulated.

The conflict between the RSF and SAF has recently worsened in the country’s capital Khartoum, and cities such as Omdurman, Bahri, and western region of Darfur.

A UN report says more than 4,000 people have been killed and millions have been displaced since the Sudan conflict between the SAF and the RSF began in mid-April.
