According to the UN, the continuous fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Nyala, Southern Darfur area of Sudan, resulted in at least 60 deaths and 250 injuries.
According to Xinhua, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated in its most recent statement that preliminary reports showed that over 10,000 families, or about 50,000 individuals, evacuated their homes.
It was mentioned that an already understaffed Turkish hospital in Nyala, the state capital of South Darfur in western Sudan, that cares for the injured, is apparently having trouble keeping up with the stream of injured individuals.
The OCHA noted that there were worries that the ongoing conflict would worsen the already precarious humanitarian situation and increase the demands of the vulnerable in terms of health, nutrition, sanitation, and food security.
There are around 401,000 people living in Nyala, and even before the violence, about 95,000 of them required humanitarian aid.
According to the Sudanese Health Ministry, since April 15 there have been violent armed conflicts between the SAF and the RSF in Khartoum and other regions, resulting in over 3,000 fatalities and over 6,000 injuries.
More than 4 million people have left their homes; of these, 3.2 million have been internally displaced while about 900,000 have gone across borders into nations including South Sudan, Chad, and Egypt.
