The executives of the Labour Party (LP) in the six states of Southwest led by the LP chairman, Omotoso Banji, have agreed to collapse their entire structure into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The decision was taken with several party executives including Omowumi Olosola, Ondo Secretary of LP, Sola Alabi amongst others in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.
On Sunday, Kano State governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Bashir Bashir, dumped his party for the APC. Bashir, alongside LP chieftains in Kano, on January 21 ignored the party’s presidential rally held in Kano.
Other party excos who shunned the rally were Mohammed Zarewa; the state coordinator for Peter Obi’s campaign, Balarabe Wakili; and a member of the presidential campaign council, Idris Dambazau. Bashir has since endorsed Bola Tinubu, the flagbearer of the APC.
Similarly, Tsoho Garba, LP gubernatorial candidate in Jigawa State, and all the party’s National Assembly candidates decamped to the APC on Friday, January 20, 2023.
Garba said the state LP chairman and all other party executives across the 27 local government areas of the state had joined the mass exodus to APC.
In a related development, the Chairman of Labour party (LP) in Onicha local government area of Ebonyi State, Chinedu Nwokposhi, dumped the party and announced his defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Nwokposhi defected into the ruling party on Sunday February 12, 2023 with over 15,000 supporters of the Labour Party in his Ishinkwo Ukawu ward.
