The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, alongside the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, conducted an inspection of the ongoing development of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) 119 Composite Group (CG) provisional layout in Sokoto State.
During the visit, Dr. Matawalle commended the professionalism and commitment of the NAF personnel, highlighting the vital role the Nigerian Air Force plays in maintaining national security.
According to the Ministry of Defence spokesperson, Henshaw Ogubike, the minister reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing NAF’s operational capacity as part of its strategic efforts to combat insecurity in the North-West region. “The Federal Government is committed to providing the necessary resources to ensure NAF maintains operational efficiency, particularly in countering security threats in the North-West,” he stated.
Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto expressed his appreciation for the cooperation between the Federal and State Governments in addressing security issues, affirming Sokoto State’s support for the Armed Forces. “Sokoto State stands firmly with the Armed Forces. We are committed to providing all necessary support to ensure peace and stability for our people,” he declared.
He also pledged ongoing collaboration to strengthen security efforts within the state and the broader region.
Additionally, the governor commended Dr. Matawalle for his determination in addressing the security challenges in the North-West, noting his efforts in reclaiming previously inaccessible areas. “The Minister has demonstrated courage by penetrating areas once considered ‘no-go’ zones and has even reopened places previously abandoned by our people,” he remarked.
The minister and the governor were briefed by the Unit Commander on the project’s progress, accompanied by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Brigadier General I.A. Ajose, and other senior military officials.
