Delta Airline Suspends Lagos-New York Flights

Delta Air Lines Suspends Lagos-New York Flights (News Central TV)

With effect from October 4, 2022, U.S airline Delta has discontinued its New York-JFK-Lagos trip. The airline explained in a statement that the route suspension was necessary to accommodate “the current demand environment.”

However, the statement said that the airline continued to run its flights between Atlanta and Lagos. In December 2021, the airline added the route to boost its frequency in Nigeria.

Although additional foreign airlines are reviewing their operations in Nigeria due to $465 million frozen cash, it was unclear whether the suspension was related to its inability to repatriate its funds.

Foreign airlines are pressing for the release of the remaining monies, but the Nigerian government has just recently released $265 million of the funds.

The statement by the U.S carrier reads, “Delta is suspending its nonstop service between New York-JFK and Lagos to fit the current demand environment. The airline continues to operate service between Lagos and Atlanta and offers onward connections to New York and other cities across the United States.

“Customers impacted by our suspended New York-JFK to Lagos service will be re-accommodated on Delta operated flights or services operated by our joint venture partners. Delta remains committed to the Nigeria market.”
