The National Assembly will convene a special joint sitting on Thursday, June 12, to mark Democracy Day, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expected to attend as the Special Guest of Honour for this year’s commemoration.
In a statement signed by the House of Representatives’ spokesperson, Hon. Akin Rotimi, the announcement was formally communicated to members via an internal memorandum from the Clerk of the House, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, Esq., issued on Sunday.
The joint sitting is slated to take place in the House of Representatives Chamber at the National Assembly Complex. Proceedings are scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM, ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR’s arrival at 12:00 noon.

“The programme will also feature goodwill messages from former presiding officers of the National Assembly and the conferment of National Honours on select legislators by Mr. President.”
The statement further emphasised: “This joint sitting represents a significant moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey. It underscores the pivotal role of the National Assembly in safeguarding democratic values, fostering accountability, and advancing national development over the past 26 years of uninterrupted civil rule.”
The House of Representatives also encouraged all Nigerians to embrace the essence of Democracy Day “as a time for reflection, renewed patriotism, and commitment to building a more inclusive, prosperous, and united nation.”
