Dengue fever has spread to Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, for the first time since records began, the health ministry said.
According to reports, the sickness has killed at least 45 people since last July in 12 states, placing the entire nation at risk of a catastrophic epidemic.
Although regularly reported throughout the nation, dengue is mostly only found in regions far from Khartoum.
Mosquitoes spread the illness. A high body temperature, a headache, and muscle soreness are a few symptoms.
The World Health Organisation has cautioned that the current situation in Sudanese hospitals is only “the top of the iceberg,” since many people choose not to seek medical attention because their symptoms are not severe enough.
Dengue (break-bone fever) is a viral infection that spreads from mosquitoes to people. It is more common in tropical and subtropical climates. Most people who get dengue won’t have symptoms. But for those that do, the most common symptoms are high fever, headache, body aches, nausea and rash
Most people with dengue have mild or no symptoms and will get better in 1–2 weeks. Rarely, dengue can be severe and lead to death.
