Denmark Cuts Diplomatic Ties with Mali and Burkina Faso

Denmark announced on Monday that it will close its embassies in Mali and Burkina Faso as part of a new Africa strategy.

According to the country’s foreign ministry, the decision was made due to the severe limitations on action in the Sahel region caused by military coups.

The foreign ministry also revealed plans to establish embassies in Senegal, Tunisia, and Rwanda and increase diplomatic staff at its embassies in Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, and Ghana.

Additionally, the country intends to appoint a special representative for the African Great Lakes and Sahel region.

Recently, the two countries, along with Niger, accused Ukraine of sponsoring terrorism in the Sahel and formally requested that the United Nations Security Council condemn the Ukrainian government.
