Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari has charged the nation’s security chiefs to identify and deploy their most competent officers regardless of seniority and “paper qualifications”.
Buhari said this after decorating the new service chiefs at an event held at the State House, Aso Rock, Abuja.
The four service chiefs were designed with badges signifying their new roles, with the President asking them to get their men on board in the next two weeks.
He asked them to ensure they restore the confidence of farmers, in order to keep Nigeria producing, even as he wished them and Nigerians the best.
Buhari had in January announced the appointment of Major General Lucky Irabor as the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru as the new Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshall Isiaka Amao as the new Chief of Air Staff and Rear Admiral Awwal Gambo as the new Chief of Naval Staff.
Nigeria is currently battling one of Africa’s deepest security challenges, with kidnappings and terrorism holding sway in different parts of the country.
