Depot Fire Under Control, Guinean Authorities Confirm

Guinea’s Minister of Security and Civil Protection Bachir Diallo confirmed Monday evening that the fuel depot fire which claimed the lives of at least 13 people and left 178 critically injured, has been “controlled”.

The Minister disclosed this during a visit to the Guinean Petroleum Company depot where a powerful explosion rocked the very foundations of the capital Conakry, followed by an inferno shortly after midnight.

He said proactive measures have been taken to prevent any further damage by the raging fire.

“The fire has been contained.

“All the necessary measures have been taken to fight the fire effectively. You can look right,” he informed.

The Guinean Authorities and local media reported Monday, that an explosion at an oil terminal in Guinea’s capital claimed several lives, and left others severely injured as emergency services fought hard to put the fire under control.
