Heavy rains in the commercial city of Tanzania, Dar es Salaam, over the past two days have led to floods causing significant damage to houses, roads, and infrastructure, resulting in an unspecified number of casualties.
Numerous houses near rivers collapsed, and roads and bridges were destroyed, creating challenging conditions for navigation within the city. The main Bagamoyo road connecting the city to northern regions became inaccessible due to flooding.
President Samia Suluhu urged citizens to take precautions by avoiding affected areas and called on rescue authorities to prevent rain-related fatalities. The Tanzania Meteorological Agency has issued a warning about the continuation of heavy rains for the rest of the month.
