Mateu Alemany, Barcelona’s director of football, will depart in the summer to begin a new project somewhere else, the team announced in a statement on Tuesday.
Although Alemany’s contract with Barcelona runs through the summer of 2024, the team announced that he would depart at the beginning of July and continue working for Barcelona to complete any summer transfers that take longer.
According to Barcelona, Alemany has pledged to complete all first-team transfer deals for the summer, even if some may happen at the very last minute of the window. He will leave the squad on July 1 as a result of a friendly arrangement.
Aston Villa of the Premier League has recently been mentioned in media stories in relation to the Spaniard.
Alemany has received plaudits for his efforts in negotiating contracts to sign a number of players while the club was struggling financially, particularly free agent signings such as defender Andreas Christensen.
Additionally, he has assisted the club in letting go of players with high salaries, like Philippe Coutinho and Miralem Pjanic.
President Joan Laporta chose the 60-year-old after he took office in March 2021.
Who is Mateu Alemany?
Mateu Alemany Font, a Spanish businessman born on February 24, 1963, has been the director of football for FC Barcelona since March 2021.
Font served as Real Mallorca’s president from 2000 until 2005, and as of January 15, 2009, he resumed this position. He served as Valencia CF’s General Director from 2017 to November 2019.
Mateu graduated from the University of the Balearic Islands in 1985 with a law degree, and he later earned a master’s in financial accounting.
He was appointed Deputy Managing Director at RCD Mallorca in 1990. He was appointed the club’s CEO in 1993, while Bartolomé Beltrán served as president.
The club underwent a number of institutional changes during his tenure as CEO, including the hiring of Antonio Asensio as president and the club’s purchase by Grupo Zeta.
