Former gubernatorial candidate in Lagos state, Funsho Doherty, has hinted that he intends to run for the state’s top job under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the next elections.
Speaking on Newscentral’s Breakfast Central on Tuesday, Doherty, who contested the 2023 gubernatorial elections under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said he had moved to the PDP and intended to secure the party’s ticket to run again.
“I’m in the PDP now and I see no reason why I should not pursue that path and so I have every intention to. Ultimately the decision will be made by the party as to who represents the party but personally, I see no reason why I should not because the things that I believe we can do to move Lagos to become a city of the future.”
“And PDP has that influence in Lagos, to you know take over Lagos. You know time will tell, and 2027 is around the corner.”
Doherty said it was time for Lagos to be removed from the grip of the APC, which has ruled it for almost three decades, and from the clutches of certain individuals who have been controlling the levers of power for so long.
“APC has run Lagos for almost 30 years, and nations have moved from third-world to first-world over the course of a generation. So I think it is time.
It’s not just the APC who you know people would say have run Lagos, but also certain persons.” He added
He admitted that uprooting the establishment would be challenging but stressed that it was up to the people to decide whether to let their mandate count.
