Domestic Airfare in Nigeria Increases by 25.51%, Now at N123,000

The average domestic airfare in Nigeria for a single journey surged by 25.51% month-on-month, reaching N123,700 in August 2024, up from N98,561 in July.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) revealed this information in its Transport Fare Watch report released on Tuesday.

The data indicated that airfare costs increased by 56.56% year-on-year, rising from N79,011.38 in August last year to N123,700 this August.

According to the NBS, Niger State recorded the highest air transport charges for specified routes, with fares at N129,575.21, closely followed by the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, at N129,442.67.

Conversely, Zamfara had the lowest fare at N102,665.89, with Cross River coming in second lowest at N120,088.93 as of August 2024.

This trend coincides with rising costs in other modes of transportation, such as road, water, and rail, primarily due to increased energy prices.
