World Number 1 and top seed, Iga Świątek won her third consecutive French Open crown on Saturday with a dominant 6-2 6-1 victory against Italian, Jasmine Paolini.
The win extends the Polish superstar’s fifth Grand Slam title, including her fourth at Roland Garros.
She becomes the first woman since Justine Henin in 2007 to win three consecutive French Open titles, extending her unbeaten run in Paris to 21 matches.
The 12th-seed Italian came into the final as a heavy underdog but broke Swiatek’s serve in just the third game.
Świątek’s response, however, was swift and brutal. She won the next 10 games to almost bagel yet another opponent. However, Paolini stuck around to nick a set before the Pole served for the championship.
After sealing the win in just over an hour, Świątek sunk to her knees in excitement before climbing into the stands to embrace her team.
“It’s amazing to be here. I love this place. I wait every year to come back.” Świątek said.
