Dosunmu Fire Town Hall: Lagos Government Compensates Victims

Following reports and a News Central special town hall meeting with victims of the Dosunmu market, the Lagos State Government has provided compensation to traders affected by the devastating market fire disaster.

This action is in response to concerns raised during the News Central Town Hall meeting held in April 2024, where traders and stakeholders voiced their challenges and needs.

The Dosumu fire incident, which occurred earlier this year, resulted in significant losses for many traders, leaving them without a source of livelihood. During the Town Hall meeting, affected traders shared their stories and appealed for support to rebuild their businesses and recover from the tragedy.

The Dosunmu market was closed shortly after the recurrent fire accidents with promises from the government and other stakeholders.

In response to the appeals, the Lagos State Government has provided financial assistance to those impacted. The compensation package is designed to help traders restart their businesses and regain their footing in the community.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu visited the scene of the incident, presenting cheques to affected traders and promising more support. The State Government worked closely with market associations and other stakeholders to ensure that the distribution of funds was both efficient and equitable.

The governor also assured the community of his commitment to providing immediate relief and long-term support to all Lagosians.
