Several attacks believed to have been perpetrated by ADF Rebels in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, according to the UN, resulted in the deaths of 20 individuals and the kidnapping of dozens more.

Children and at least four patients who were burned alive at a church clinic in the region of North Kivu are among the deceased.

Allied Democratic Forces, ADF, a group with ties to the Islamic State, is accused of carrying out the assault.

It is regarded as the deadliest armed group active in the nation and has received a terrorist organisation designation from the US.

In the dangerous North Kivu area, where the Congolese army and UN forces are battling members of the organization, witnesses said that fierce fighting is still going on.

Last Thursday, the rebels stormed a local clinic in Lume town, where they slaughtered several people, including the four patients who had been burned alive in the medical center.

According to the UN mission in the DR Congo, other surrounding villages also saw the demolition of hundreds of homes.

At least 30 minors are among the dozens of people reported missing who are thought to have been kidnapped by the organisation.

In the province of Ituri, peacekeepers and fighters have traded shots. Mineral-rich The M23 movement and the ADF are just two of the armed organisations involved in the recent resurgence of conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Last month, the leaders of the East African Community decided to send a regional force to assist the Congolese government in containing the violence in the east.
