At least 29 farmers have died in a mishap involving a passenger boat in Gbajibo Community, Mokwa Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State on Sunday.
Sources said many others remain missing and that the victims were from Ekwa, Gbajibo and Yankeiade, all in Mokwa LGA of the state.
Confirming the incident, Chairman, Mokwa LGA, Jibrin Abdullahi Muregi said 21 corpses had so far been recovered by local divers in the area.
He explained that efforts have been intensified to rescue the remaining victims.
However, officials of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency said they were collating data to establish the number of people involved.
The development comes days after many died in a boat conveying some people, especially women and children, capsized in Yola,Northeast Nigeria.
