Boat Carrying 100 Migrants Sinks Off Tunisia Coast (News Central TV)

Not less than 76 people have been reported missing after a boat carrying approximately 100 people sank near Tunisia‘s south-eastern city of Sfax.

According to the UN migration agency IOM in Tunisia, one body has been recovered so far, and 30 others have been rescued by the Tunisian coastguard.

The overcrowded boat set sail from the Libyan shores of Zuwara, close to the Tunisian-Libyan border, according to the privately owned Tunisian Kapitalis news site.

The development comes just days after two other boats went down off the coast of Sfax province.

According to the state-run Shems FM radio station, eight Tunisians from the central coastal city of Monastir went missing in one of the incidents.

In the other incident, at least four other migrants died and ten were reported missing after a boat carrying 58 migrants capsized.

Tunisia is a major transit point for migrants attempting to cross into Europe from North Africa.
