The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested eight suspected bandits and 22 suspected informants during various operations carried out by its operatives in Kaduna State during the first quarter of 2025.

The Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, through the state’s Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Sule Shuaibu, has praised the DSS for its successful operations, which led to the arrest of numerous bandits and the recovery of large quantities of arms and ammunition.

According to the Commissioner for Justice, who visited the DSS headquarters in Kaduna on Sunday, the secret police also apprehended 12 family members of suspected bandits during one of their raids.

He disclosed that DSS operatives conducted 34 successful operations across Kaduna State, resulting in the arrest of four suspected gunrunners, two human traffickers, four cyber fraudsters, and two vandals.

The service also recovered a significant cache of dangerous weapons, including rifles, pump-action guns, and several thousand rounds of ammunition, within the first quarter of 2025.

Among those arrested was a serving security officer from Zamfara State, who admitted to stealing ammunition intended for operations against bandits and selling it instead. Upon his arrest, he was found with 217 rounds of assorted ammunition, which he planned to sell for ₦4 million.

The DSS also apprehended a suspected gunrunner with 500 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition, intended for sale to one Suleiman in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State for ₦1.5 million.

Meanwhile, Governor Uba Sani, through the Attorney General, commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing Oluwatosin Ajayi as Director General of the DSS, citing the agency’s recent successes in addressing security challenges nationwide.

The governor expressed his satisfaction with the DSS’s achievements, particularly the arrests of numerous bandits and the recovery of arms and ammunition during the first quarter of 2025.
