The East African Community (EAC) has re-launched the Nyerere Centre for Peace Research in Arusha, Tanzania.
The aim of the Centre is to provide the EAC with research, training, and information that promotes peace, security, good governance, and joint foreign policy pursuits to advance regional integration and development.
The Centre embodies the vision of late President Nyerere for a peaceful and prosperous East Africa and serves as a hub for the Community to discuss relevant issues and effect change.
The EAC is committed to peace and security, good governance, and common foreign policy pursuits through its Treaty, which places emphasis on peaceful co-existence, good neighbourliness, and democracy.
Mwalimu Julius Nyerere was a respected and beloved African leader known for his messages of peace, unity, and liberation.
He played a key role in the creation of the Organisation of the African Unity and was instrumental in the liberation movements and union of Zanzibar and Tanganyika to form Tanzania.
