Mary-Maudline Ogbonna Nwifuru, the wife of Ebonyi State Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has been awarded the 2024 African Iconic Recognition Women Award as the best performing First Lady in Nigeria.
The award ceremony, organised by African Iconic Women, took place at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja on May 23, 2024.
In her acceptance speech, Mrs Nwifuru attributed the award to the collective efforts of her supporters and all first ladies across Nigeria who strive to make a positive impact.
She restated her commitment to serving the people of Ebonyi State with passion, integrity, and determination to bring about positive change and uplift the marginalised.
The First Lady said she had initiated projects to improve healthcare, promote education, empower women and youth, and address social and economic challenges through her foundation, Better Health for Rural Women, Children and Internally Displaced (BERWO).
She pledged to continue working tirelessly for the benefit of all citizens in her state and to contribute to Nigeria’s progress.
“My solemn commitment is to serve the people of my state with passion, integrity and unwavering determination to effect positive change and to uplift the marginalised, as well as to give a voice to the voiceless,” Mrs Nwifuru said.
“Through my Foundation, Better Health for Rural Women, Children and Internally Displaced (BERWO), we have implemented initiatives aimed at improving healthcare, promoting education, empowering women and youth and addressing the pressing social and economic challenges facing our nation,” she disclosed.
