Economic Hardship Fuelling Migration — Waka Waka Doctor

According to travel and migration expert Douglas Kendyson, popularly known as the Wakawaka Doctor, the country’s difficult economic climate is the primary reason many Nigerians want to seek a better life abroad.

Speaking on Newscentral’s Jasiri, Kendyson said that while there are several reasons, including insecurity, decayed healthcare and educational system and the natural urge to migrate, the harsh economic climate is at the heart of why every demography in the country is seeking to migrate.

Ironically, while the harsh economic conditions are the reason many want to leave, they are also why many people cannot.

Noting that the grass is not always greener on the other side or that there is no perfect economy anywhere, you should migrate to seek better opportunities and move to a place that is better than where you are. However, proper planning and investment in information must be made before taking the leap.

He lamented that the outflow of Nigerians is bound to damage the country’s socio-economic potential in the long term.

However, he insists, eventually it is a bold decision to leave everything behind to move to another country where you have to start virtually afresh in forming new relationships, getting a new job and assimilating a new culture.

“Travelling about isn’t necessarily about money; it is about courage,” Kendyson stressed, urging the government to meet its policies with action to stop the tide of migration. Watch more:
